To me, Luffy is incredibly complex but also simple at his core. He’s predictable. Every action he takes is obvious once you reach a certain point in the story. Dropping this predictable protagonist into an incredibly dark, unpredictable, and twisted world is a stroke of genius. It’s one of the things that makes One Piece great.

For context, Itachi using Snake Sage Kabuto & himself as a template, gave Sasuke a well thought-out lesson on the consequences of deluding yourself (Chapter 585, page 10). That went through one ear & out the other, leading Sasuke to mirror Kabuto’s decent into derangement (Chapter 586, page 9 & Chapter 696, page 6) & undergo a change of heart through defeat (Chapter 698, page 16), much in the same way Kabuto did. Like Kabuto, Sasuke was adding to himself (Chapter 585, page 1), losing his sense of self upon new information, until a culmination of the knowledge he’d gathered saw him masquerading as Itachi (Chapter 694, page 1-5), much in the same way Kabuto’s final form meant mimicing Orochimaru. With Sasuke present, Itachi warned Kabuto not to imitate Orochimaru (a failure) as it would become his achilles heel (Chapter 585, page 10). Sasuke not listening to Itachi’s words despite seeing the immortal Kabuto fail (like Orochimaru & Itachi once did) first-hand, ended up imitating Itachi anyway (a failure - Chapter 585, page 2) leading to his inevitable conquest to Naruto (Chapter 698, page 16). Sasuke’s inability to heed Itachi’s wisdom like Naruto did, which tackled the consequences of shouldering the fate of the world on your own (Chapter 552, page 7-8) despite Itachi telling him he failed & despite outright seeing Kabuto fail, is why the Asura & Indra cycle of hatred went on longer than it should’ve. They both recieved the same lesson (Sasuke to an even greater extent than Naruto), yet only one of them took it upon themselves to abide it. In that same manner, nothing would’ve changed had a younger Sasuke witnessed Zabuza & Haku’s deaths. Their failed outlook on the system wouldn’t have stopped him from defecting the village through the Sound Fours coercion after his defeat to Itachi. He was fated to walk the path he did. By the way, this video is superb.

Spoilers: I love watching breakdowns of old story arcs since finding out Luffy is the Sun God Nika. Especially if the breakdown starts talking about dawn coming like you do in this video. You were talking about the zombies and the others who had their shadow taken not being afraid (so basically they faith in Luffy/faith in the sun god) and Luffy is there to save them, which is a common them everywhere they go. And that mies perfect sense bc wherever Luffy goes, you can hear it: The Drums of Liberation. What’s funny about starting the show years and years after everybody else is that I hear all of these opinions about each arc:”. First of all, there is no bad arc in One Piece. Secondly, the amount of crap Skypiea and Thriller Bark get is insane bc Thirdly, those are two of the best arcs. Nevermind that TB is one of the funniest arcs but moe importantly we meet Brook, so then we learn about Laboon. And then at the end of the arc we get 'Nothing Happened.' Mad Underrated.

there are some little things I don't like about how he was written, but I think the only thing that ruins it, is him being with rin at the end, thats just completely makes it a wet fart, in the storm games his death is was way way better, there was no heaven with rin, he just dies, and even better the last person he talks to is kakashi he puts his hand on his forehead and gives him his light temporarily. obitos death in storm 4 is just perfect, him having a happy ending going to ninja heaven with rin is completely stupid.

It does seem like Sasuke so easily believes what people tell him, and never thinks for himself. Heck even Itachi says "Sasuke is a blank canvas that can be painted any color." I support Sasuke killing the elders 100% especially Hiruzen who could've prevented the Uchiha massacre if he wasn't such a pushover and kept Danzo on a leash. The elders turned the village against the Uchiha and Hiruzen did nothing about it.

Putting Naruto as an underdog in a social sense is far more evident, and also brings the philosophy of Neji back to its original purpose, which you COULD say wasn't about strength and weakness being genetic, but rather about the feudalistic outlook that a person's social status can never change. Naruto's underdog nature is tied to how he was treated in society, not his power scaling, which is why he can relate to the suffering of other extremely powerful characters that had traumatizing pasts. It's not about being an underdog that overcomes the bad guy's power, but the underdog that overcomes the bad guy's sense of hatred and isolation. I have to admit, I hadn't seen the story in that light before now. Another strong point you made is that the main theme of Naruto isn't "hard work vs natural gifts", but about understanding people's pain and motivations. If the entire theme of the series WAS the same as the theme for Rock Lee's character, then Naruto would fail spectacularly at it. Unfortunately, Naruto juggles a lot of themes, and you can't just cherry pick the ones that work for the series and ignore the ones that don't. I still do feel like the story fails at the theme that Rock Lee embodies, as Rock Lee still loses to Gaara and has limited relevance for the rest of the series. Naruto's writing is far from perfect for me, but it at least succeeds at some things.
